ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an artist based in Berkeley, California, creating hand-pulled fine art prints and paintings informed by the textures, colors, shapes, and patterns found in nature. Whether my subject is a sweeping landscape or the delicate details of seaweed washed ashore by the ocean’s surf, I seek to share the sense of awe and delight I felt when its beauty caught my eye.
My work layers etching, collagraph, carborundum, monoprint, and painting techniques. Deeply rooted in experimentation, my practice balances intention and chance to create fresh images that authentically convey my lived experience of the natural world.
I have always felt pulled to create, dating back to my first memory of picking up a paintbrush in kindergarten. A 35+ year career in finance and higher education, combined with raising a family, meant that my art education and practice were pushed to the margins of my life, though I never stopped creating. After retiring in 2022, I entered a new and more focused stage of my artistic journey. I remain hungry for experience—whether that means experimenting in my studio, learning something new in an art class, or discovering a new trail. I am still exploring and shaping my artistic voice, and I embrace the fact that it is a work in progress.
